I started doing a lot of painting and drawing on large sheets of paper (A2, A1 sizes, mostly) several years ago. I love painting on canvas, but I had storage problems so I thought I’d do more on paper to save space. It’s become my favourite surface.

In the past I had dabbled with adding words to my work, but on paper I felt so much more freedom - like paper was somehow more natural for writing.

This opened up big shift in my direction, and more illustrative and stream of consciousness ideas made it onto the sheets on my easel. Some are deeply personal, some are humorous. Occassionally, I slip a song lyric in… I’ve usually had some wine when that happens.
